This article focuses on the role of states in the rescheduling process of metropolitan governance across borders in Europe. With the emergence of cross-border metropolitan areas, the goal is to highlight the structuring effects of national policies to support metropolitan areas on the scalar configurations, developed by local and regional actors in their political ladders.
