N° 08/2013 Internet users in Luxembourg and in the EU27
In the context of the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, celebrated Mai 17th, Statec takes a closer look at the Internet users in Luxembourg and in the EU27. In 2012, 93% of households in Luxembourg had Internet access at home, but only 68% had a broadband connection. The digital divide in the EU27 has fallen sharply over the past five years, but remains high. With 81% of residents using the Internet every day, Luxembourg is the European leader in the use of the Internet followed by the Scandinavian countries and the United Kingdom. In terms of daily Internet use, social disparities are still important: 94% of individuals who have completed a higher educational level access daily to the web while the proportion is 53% among the individuals with lower educational. The most common Internet activities are emailing, products or services up looking, online news and banking and travel services.
