Survey on confidence in public statistics
The European Statistical System adopted the “European Statistics Code of Practice - revised edition 2011 (CoP)” that aims at enhancing confidence in the work of statistical authorities and at strengthening the quality of statistics. In order to attain these results, the CoP recommends the coherent application of best principles, methods, practices by everyone involved in drawing up official statistics. Statisticians are obliged to evaluate their work by the yardstick of the CoP which foresees that statisticians have to take opinions from outside of the statistical system into account as well. That is the reason why STATEC regularly carries out a survey on confidence and satisfaction of the users of public statistics.
The survey currently under way demonstrates how the quality of official statistics done by STATEC is perceived by different groups of users and allows to evaluate how easy access to and clarity of statistics is. The questionnaire was elaborated on the basis of satisfaction and confidence surveys lead in the past as well as a pilot questionnaire elaborated by the OECD (Organisation for economic Co-operation and Development). The survey results will be published by STATEC.
The survey on confidence in public statistics is conducted via online questionnaires. STATEC assigned the collection of responses to the company TNS/Ilres. The survey draws from a sample consisting of people subscribed to STATEC’s newsletter as well as people registered with the MyPanel database of TNS/Ilres.
